xTool Studio notifies you that the side camera of the P3 has disconnected. Before you get alarmed, here’s a reassuring fact: this alert does not interrupt the work. In most cases, you can continue the task normally. The useful question is another: is it a false alarm or a truly loose cable? You can tell in a minute.
This guide adapts xTool’s support documentation on the side camera disconnection in the P3 into Spanish.
What it’s telling you
The P3 has cameras that help with positioning and previewing. When a side camera loses communication, Studio shows "Side camera disconnection detected." There are two, with different codes:
- Upper side camera:
CAMERA.EVENT_TYPE_SIDE_CAMERA_UP_DISCONNECT - Lower side camera:
CAMERA.EVENT_TYPE_SIDE_CAMERA_DOWN_DISCONNECT
There are three possible causes: a cable problem, a camera failure, or a software failure. The good news is that often it’s the last one—a false alarm—and can be ruled out without opening anything.
Step 1: Is there really an image?
This check saves you from disassembling the machine unnecessarily:
- Start a process.
- Go to the side view in the monitoring.
- If the image is stable → it’s very likely a software false alarm. Press Ignore to dismiss it and keep working.
- If there is no image → then there is something to check. Continue below.
Step 2: The connector
Check if the camera connector is loose. If it is, secure it well. This is the most common mechanical cause and the easiest to fix.
Step 3: The cable
If the connector is fine but there’s still no image:
- Turn off the machine and unplug it.
- Remove the left side panel.
- Inspect the condition of the connection cable.
If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced. If it’s in good condition and the camera still doesn’t show an image, the problem points to the main control board or the camera itself, and then you need support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work with the side camera disconnected?
Yes. The alert does not stop the work. The side camera helps with previewing, but its failure does not prevent engraving or cutting. That said, it’s advisable to fix it so you don’t lose that positioning aid.
The alert appears but there is an image. Should I just ignore it?
If the image in the side view looks stable, yes: it’s a software false alarm. Press Ignore. If it happens often, update Studio and the firmware, which usually fixes these false positives.
Upper or lower, does it make a difference?
The procedure is the same; only the code and which physical camera to check change. Note which one the error indicates so you can go straight to the correct one.
