The xTool P3 does not connect to Wi-Fi: network not showing or configuration failing

You're trying to connect the xTool P3 via wifi in xTool Studio and you run into one of these two walls: the network doesn't appear in the list, or it appears but the setup fails. Both usually have the same underlying culprit — the 2.4 GHz band — and can be resolved with an orderly troubleshooting process. Here it is.

This guide adapts xTool's official support documentation on P3 wifi connection into Spanish, showing what we check first when it fails.

First things first: test detection via USB

Before struggling with wifi, rule out hardware or basic communication failure:

  1. Connect the P3 to the computer with the USB cable.
  2. In xTool Studio, go to the gear icon (Device Settings) → DeviceConnection DetectionStart.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions (click "Allow" if the system asks you).

If it works via USB, the problem is with the network, not the machine. Continue below according to your case.

Case A: the wifi network does not appear in the list

If your network name doesn’t even show up:

  • Make sure wifi is enabled on your computer. It seems obvious, but it’s the number one cause.
  • Watch out for desktop PCs: many don’t come with a wifi card by default. Check that yours supports wireless connection.
  • And the most common underlying reason, which we explain in Case B: the P3 only works on the 2.4 GHz band. If your network is 5 GHz, it won’t see it.

Case B: the network appears but setup fails

You see the network name, select it, enter the password, but the connection doesn’t complete. Follow these steps in order:

1. Same network, and make sure it’s 2.4 GHz. The computer and the P3 must be on exactly the same wifi network. Here lies the key to almost everything: if your computer is on the 5 GHz band and the P3 on 2.4 GHz, they won’t communicate. Switch your computer to the 2.4 GHz network. Many routers broadcast both bands with similar names; make sure both devices connect to the 2.4 GHz one.

2. Network name and password without odd characters. Check that your network name (SSID) does not contain special characters like ' " ! \, and that the password is less than 32 characters. These details break the setup more often than you’d think.

3. Disable proxy or VPN. An active proxy or VPN blocks device detection on the local network.

  • Windows: Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy, and turn off proxy servers.
  • macOS: System Preferences → Network → Wi-Fi → Details → Proxies, and disable them.

4. Connect via direct IP. If the P3 is on the network but Studio doesn’t pair it automatically, do it manually:

  • Find the IP: in Studio, click the three dots next to the device image → Device Settings (gear) → Basic Information → Wi-Fi settings. Copy the IP address.
  • Open the "Connect Device" window in Studio, go to the IP tab, paste the address, and click Connect.

5. Try using your phone’s hotspot. To check if the problem is your router: activate a 2.4 GHz hotspot on your phone and connect both the computer and the P3 to it. If it connects this way, the machine is fine and the problem lies in your router’s security settings or firewall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why only 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz?

This is common in machines and IoT devices: the 2.4 GHz band has less bandwidth but greater range and better wall penetration, which matters in a workshop. Most P3 wifi issues are solved simply by connecting it to the 2.4 GHz network.

My router broadcasts a single network for both 2.4 and 5 GHz. What do I do?

That’s called "band steering." Many routers allow you to separate the bands into two distinct names from their admin panel, or create a 2.4 GHz-only network. If not, the phone hotspot trick confirms if that’s the problem.

It works via USB but not wifi. Can I work like this?

Yes, USB works just the same. But wifi frees you from having the cable connected; it’s worth fixing, and it’s almost always the band.
