The visible difference between bulk printed keepsake and premium photographic keepsake: the first uses thin 120-150 g/m² paper with standard digital printing. The photo appears pixelated in dark areas, colors tend to orange saturation, the paper wrinkles when handled. The second uses 300-350 g/m² matte paper with archival quality photo printing: sharp photo at any zoom, true colors, paper that doesn’t wrinkle or fade over time.
The extra cost: 50-100% more per unit. But the quality difference is huge and, above all, premium photographic keepsakes really last. Grandma puts them on the sideboard, uncles put them in the family album, friends stick them on the fridge. If you’re going to make a photographic keepsake, do it right.

Does it work with a phone photo or require a professional photographer’s photo?
Works with any well-taken photo. Modern smartphones (latest iPhone, Samsung Galaxy) have enough resolution to print at postcard size without loss. What matters is composition and lighting, not the device.
Is it better to have a keepsake with a photo of the communicant alone or with family?
A photo of the communicant alone is more universal (fits on the godfather’s display without showing the parents). A family photo is more sentimental for close guests.
