Our xTool O1 Omni Dual UV is already in the workshop and is helping renew the Picasita catalog. We are very happy with the machine and with the printing results. After months of tracking dispatch dates, we can finally share our setup experience.
About Two Hours Following the Manual, Step by Step
The Quick Start flyer links to the online PDF manual. Following it in order was clear for us: the complete setup took us about two hours. This is our time, including preparation and initialization, and not a promise that any installation will take the same.
It is advisable to open the manual before starting, prepare the workspace, and complete each phase without skipping instructions. The official O1 Omni manual describes assembly, connection, and initialization. A newly unboxed machine needs this process before going into production.
Happy with the Printing, with Reservations About Some Finishes
The Dual UV is working very well in our workshop. The feel of the machine seems somewhat plasticky to us, and there are components we would have preferred in steel. This is an impression regarding the finish and build; we have not measured its durability, nor can we turn that feeling into a diagnosis of resistance.
Odor Is Perceptible with the Large Bed
The large bed requires the front and rear covers to be open. In that configuration, we do notice an odor. It does not take over the whole house, but it is perceptible. Our experience aligns with the xTool FAQ: opening the covers reduces the capture efficiency of the integrated system. The absence of an intense odor does not serve to measure exposure, nor does it replace the ventilation conditions specified in the manual.
Two Layers of White and One of Color as a Starting Point
The generic setting we are preferring is two layers of white and one of color. We use it as a starting point, and then we check the substrate and the design. We do not take for granted that it is the best balance for every material, finish, or fine detail.
We have also tested the multi-surface primer we bought on Amazon, and it is working well for us in our tests. The purchase listing does not allow presenting it as a formulation specifically for UV ink: our result also does not guarantee adhesion on all materials. Before running a batch, we do a test on the specific piece.
The Laminator Is Still Pending
Our laminator has already been dispatched from a European warehouse, but we have not yet received it. That is why we do not include an assessment of its operation here. Nor do we apply our tracking status to all European orders: each order has its own status.
For white borders, check out our white ink choke and Dual UV calibration guide. The consumables situation is covered in O1 Omni ink, alerts, and replenishment.
